Two New AI Models Just Dropped. Here's What Your Business Actually Needs to Know.

Every few weeks, a headline lands in your inbox: "Major AI update changes everything." And every few weeks, you read it, nod, and go back to running your actual business.

I get it. I'm a founder too.

But this week's news is different. Not because it sounds exciting, but because it directly changes how much you'll pay for AI tools and what your competitors can now do with them. Let me break it down without the hype.

What Just Happened

On June 30, Anthropic launched Claude Sonnet 5 and immediately made it the default model for every free and paid user on Claude.ai. If you've ever opened a Claude conversation, you're already running it. It's priced at $2 per million tokens, a fraction of what enterprise AI cost eighteen months ago, and it's the most capable version of Claude built for autonomous, multi-step work: drafting, analyzing, executing workflows end to end without hand-holding.

That same week, OpenAI previewed GPT-5.6, which introduces something called ultra mode. It's a framework where the AI doesn't just answer your prompt but deploys subagents to break complex tasks into parallel workstreams. Think of it as your AI going from a single contractor to a coordinated team, automatically.

Two things happened in the same week: the cost of AI came down significantly, and the capability went up. That gap between what AI can now do and what most small businesses are actually using it for just got wider.

What This Looks Like in Practice

HP Inc. recently shared early results from their AI deployment with OpenAI. One engineer completed 122 pull requests across 43 different projects in a matter of weeks, work that would have taken months. Their security team fixed software vulnerabilities in a single day that previously took a month to address.

HP is a Fortune 500 company. But the same principles apply to a 12-person insurance agency in Hoboken, a CPA firm in Montclair, or a home care business in Bergen County. The tasks are different. The math is the same.

AI handles the repetitive, time-consuming work. Your people focus on what actually grows the business.

The businesses seeing those results aren't the ones with the biggest tech budgets. They're the ones that stopped waiting and started building.

Three Things Worth Doing This Week

1. Audit where your team's time actually goes.

Look at the last two weeks. What did you or your staff spend the most hours on that wasn't directly client-facing? Lead follow-up? Report generation? Scheduling? Answering the same five customer questions over and over? Those are your first AI targets, and they tend to deliver the fastest return.

2. Test Claude Sonnet 5 on one real task.

It's free to start. Pick one workflow that currently eats two or more hours a week. Spend thirty minutes building a Claude prompt around it. The gap between "I tried it once" and "this runs every week without me touching it" is usually much smaller than people expect. If it works, automate it. If it doesn't, you've lost thirty minutes and learned something useful.

3. Watch GPT-5.6 closely as it rolls out.

It's currently in limited API access for select partners, with broader ChatGPT availability coming within weeks. The ultra mode subagent framework is most powerful for multi-step research, outbound sequences, and operations workflows. All areas where small and mid-sized businesses have the most to gain, and the most ground to make up.

The Bottom Line

AI isn't slowing down. The models are improving faster than most businesses are adopting them. That gap is exactly where your competitors either fall behind or pull ahead.

If you're not sure where to start, or you've experimented with AI tools and they haven't clicked yet, that's the problem we solve every day. At BrightPeak AI, we work with small and mid-sized businesses across New York and New Jersey to build AI systems that actually run. Ones that save your team hours every week and don't require a full-time tech department to maintain.
